A downloadable tool

Make your transparent character renders look more like anime with this (experimental) new compositor node group! Either start your project on this project file or import the node groups into your own!

I created this by practicing 2d compositing through image editors then transferring my usual workflow into the compositor for an automatic result.

Tweak the actual node group inside if you dare... It's all spaghetti code. Aiaiai

These node groups work essentially through blurring your color source

(your background by default) and using that resulting color for pretty much everything. The automatic compositor tries to distinguish between dark and bright scenes to tint and shade the foreground image by itself.

If you're having issues with it, switch to manual for specific shots.

This project file is not meant for final render results, as you may need to tweak the canvas size to fit your needs. For static shots, the current setup will do just fine.

For moving shots you may need two separate image sequences of your background and foreground to merge through the compositor, or you can set the resolution to the size of your background and pan the movement later if you wish to keep the background's original size.

To avoid copyright issues with using existing anime images, I made two quick placeholders you can switch out with your own files.
