Devlog #3 - preparing everything


Hello! Once again, here's a devlog of what's been going on for the past week, and what may happen in the future.

character selector

One of the big things I've tried focusing on with Pandemommyum's writing is how easy it should be for the player to connect with the characters in the story. And as such, that relationship doesn't just depend on the characters the player meets, but also the actual main character that represents them.
As such, I am partially finished with a feature I have been planning for a while! The ability to pick from three possible character designs for the main character.


The design you pick will change the CGs that include them. As you can see, they're still sketches, but I hope to finish them soon. Speaking of work-in-progress:

As far as writing goes, everything is done! As far as coding goes, however, the character selector is still only halfway there. The "about" page of the visual novel also needs refurbishing.

Also, a short new rout has been added that leads back to the main route at the end, but allows you to know morea bout Makoto's backstory! You'll know what choice to pick when it arrives, it's the only choice in this chapter you can take.

Firstly, all backgrounds have been finished, which is great! Secondly, here's that new pose I talked about on the last devlog!


Like most of the latest artworks on the project, it's still a sketch. And thirdly, let's talk further about that subject.

As I mentioned on the first devlog, production has slowed down after I suffered an injury as I overworked myself and placed heavy strain on my body. On the 5th of August, I'll be resuming my physical therapy sessions, and that means production may slow down more.
However! The past week, and for the next week as well, I'm taking care of everything that's not artwork-related so I can have the first part of this game ready for the final stretch!

That also may mean that after next week's devlog, most updates you may get will likely be "This character sprite has been finished. That CG has been finished."

conclusion

Another thing I've also tried doing is balancing my time between working on the VN versus drawing for my art twitter.

Specially the fact that in my last anime character art poll, the winning character was "this poll's most liked reply". And so now I gotta draw Zinogre, a hyper-detailed monster from Monster Hunter...   well it sounds like I'm ranting, but I'm just justifying why last week's been emptier on art and fuller on coding. I do have to rest my wrist, hehe.
